Gay Marriage Is Good for America »
Posted By david_nwpa 3 months, 2 weeks ago in StyleMarriage, remember, is not just a contract between two people. It is a contract that two people make, as a couple, with their community -- which is why there is always a witness. Two people can't go into a room by themselves and come out legally married.

The communal aspect of marriage is what is so important for equality. Religious people do not want gays and lesbians to marry, because they view it as equating being gay to being morally acceptable. Therein seems to be the greatest concern. More moderate folks have no problem recognizing gay relationships as long as they have another name. However, the author's point covers this situation precisely. Contracts and civil unions are not a substitute for being legally married, which brings with it numerous rights and responsibilities. Marriage is more than a contract between two people. It is also a contract between a couple and the community.

Gay Marriage Is Good for America
HoMosexual Men and HoMosexual women who want to marry should be able to do so in a legal manner.
Bashing Religion in any format is Low Class and very Disgraceful.
HoMosexuals have their rights and choices. Just like the Mother who wants to kill her baby through Abortion, she has the legal Right, the liberial Democrats introduced the law, fought for it and succeeded. Now Than, the woman in Roe versus Wade now says, she made a mistake and should Not have Killed her baby, sorry it's too late.
What's important is they have the legal right, it may not be humane to take a babies life, but it's the law due to liberal democrats.
HoMosexual marriage may not seem Normal to most Americans, but, it's the law in California and HoMosexuals have the right to marry.
It's Not Religion, It's Common Sense! What is it that some people Do Not Understand?

Hobe, I am not sure how to respond to your comments except that abortion is irrelevant to the conversation at hand. No one in the gay community is upset about abortion on this particular thread. The rest of your material looked like one non sequitir after another. It does seem as if you approve of or support gay marriage, and for that, I thank you.

I'm never sure how to take his comments. I have to wonder if he's British with his constant reference to the "Liberal Democrats" but that doesn't seem right at all. I think he's a conservative who's trying rather hard to be accepting of other viewpoints, from a legal perspective, if not agreeing with it morally.

You're welcome. The more people who know we exist and can see gays and lesbians as good people with just a different sexual identity, perhaps the less we are likely to be shunned. Of course, not everyone will change their mind, as evidenced in the article I submitted about the FX television show, 30 Days.

The witness to a marriage, in addition to validating the contract between two people, represents the community's recognition of the union and confirms that the society no confers not only the rights associated with marriage, but also the PROTECTION OF THE COMMUNITY AND ITS LAWS. In fact, it is this aspect of the marriage "contract" which has allowed gays to make their most compelling arguments for acceptance.
It can easily be argued that the community, in conferring these, gives far more to the newly married couple than they propose to contribute to the community. The author, Jonathan Rauch, seems to have trouble admitting that couples can get more than they give to the community.

It is certainly appropriate to condemn your remark as racist twaddle, but it is also important to point out that there is no statistical basis for your claim.
You would do well to concentrate your contributions in areas where you have some real knowledge, although that would require long periods of silence from you.

So you are saying straight sex scenes in movies, or films like Sex and the City should be banned?
