Transgender youth in New York's juvenile detention centers are now allowed to wear whatever uniform they choose, be called by whatever name they want and ask for special housing under a new anti-discrimination policy drawing praise from advocacy groups.

    Governor Paterson and the entire state of New York deserve high praise for the equality measures they are taking. The only step left toward sexual identity and gender identity equality is to bring full marriage equality to New York. The New York Assembly has passed such legislation. Eventually, the Senate will too and the Governor will sign it.

      Separate facilities not a problem. However they should wear the same inmate clothing all inmates wear & they should be called by there offical name of record.
