Why is it straight kids think it is acceptable to beat up gay kids and abuse them? Personal opinion, but bigotry is contagious from parent to child, and religion does not help at all. Could it also be that straight kids are in the closet deeper than some of my old sweaters? Could be?

You teach children that difference is not a call to violence, physical or verbal. Violence begins in the home.

McCarpentry, the difference is the fat kid on the playground can lose weight. The skinny kid can add muscle mass. Where I draw the line is the point at which the gay kid is the easy target. He cannot change being gay. The lesbian student cannot give up being lesbian. We can mask our identity, but we cannot run away from it.

To be sure, no violence is acceptable, and no one should suffer abuse. Then again, religion does not speak out against fat kids that loudly, does it?
