Berlin Pays Tribute to Gay-Rights Activist Persecuted by…
Gay & Lesbian – Berlin renamed a stretch of the Spree River in honor of a gay-rights activist persecuted by the Nazis in the 1930s as the city's biggest hospital opened an exhibition devoted to the sex researcher.
Amazing how time heals wounds. A gay rights pioneer who fought for gay rights, but went into exile before World War II, is honored by having a stretch of the Spree River in Berlin named after him. During the reign of the Nazis, that would have been nonsense. Today, gays and lesbians in Germany are given considerably more respect and acceptance than in the so-called "free" United States.
